The Research Centre for Language Planning of the Institute of Hungarian Studies organised its first international conferenceon language strategy on 12-13 May 2022, entitled European Language Policies and Strategies. As a follow-up to this conference, the Institute plans to organise another conference in Septemer 2025 under the title "Current Language Policy Practices in European Countries, Discussion and Exchange of Best Practices".
The review of the special issue based on the previous conference is available here: https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/14664208.2024.2442195
The aim of the conference is to provide a comprehensive and updated picture of the linguistic and language policy situation and aspirations of the invited speakers' countries, and to address the main language strategy issues in a comparative way.In addition to presenting the current language situation and language policy in the country concerned, the conference invites presentations that reflect on good practices in language policy and language planning in the respective country.
We are primarily interested in good practices that contribute to improving the language situation in everyday life, i.e. that function as a de facto language policy in a country and have a positive impact on everyday language use. We would be interested in a presentation that focuses in particular on (some of) the following areas:
- official and non-official languages
- minority language issues
- language education and training
- (linguistic) identity
- the role of the media in language policy
- raising awareness of language issues
- language policy practices
Naturally, we welcome any other topic, as long as it can serve as a model for other nations to learn from in the light of the above. After reviewing the submitted abstracts, we will contact you with the further details.
The conference will be organised as an in-person event. Accommodation and meals will be provided for the duration of the conference for invited speakers. There is no registration fee for the conference.
