Overview
The primary objective of the Research Centre for History is the identification and critical publication of historical, prehistoric, philosophical, social, demographic and cultural sources related to Hungarian history, as well as the provision of a source-based, up-to-date analysis of the entire span of Hungarian history within the historical context of the Carpathian Basin and Eurasia.
A key strategic task of the Research Centre is the comprehensive examination of Hungarian prehistory, the events leading up to the conquest of the Carpathian Basin, the early Hungarian tribal confederation, the network of steppe and eastern connections, the founding of the Hungarian state, the state organization during the Árpád era and the historical development of Hungarian society and national identity.
Mission
The mission of the Research Centre is:
- to conduct integrated research on historical sources related to Hungarian prehistory and early Hungarian statehood;
- to conduct a historical study of the development of Hungarian statehood;
- to explore the long-term processes of Hungarian society, culture and political thinking;
- to lay the scientific foundation for historical and genealogical research programs of particular relevance;
- to strengthen the Carpathian Basin, pan-Hungarian and diaspora-related dimensions of Hungarian history; and
- to disseminate historical knowledge to broad layers of society.
The activities of the Research Centre contribute to:
- the advancement of scientific research;
- the promotion of national self-awareness; and
- the strengthening of national identity.
