Research Centre for Eurasian Relations

Overview

The task of the Research Centre for Eurasian Relations is to conduct interdisciplinary research on the networks of Eurasian connections, particularly those that are significant from the perspective of Hungarian prehistory, early history and national identity, with a special focus on the study of steppe civilizations, as well as the Hun, Turk, Mongol, Chinese, Arab, Syrian and Eastern European historical connections.

By integrating the findings of historical, philological, archaeological, archaeogenetic, ethnographic and geopolitical research, the Research Centre contributes to a comprehensive understanding of the Eurasian network of connections of the Hungarian people.

Mission

Mission of the Research Centre:

• research into the Eurasian context of Hungarian prehistory;
• exploring the network of connections among the Hun, Xiongnu, Turkic, Mongol, Arab and other steppe civilizations;
• the identification, translation and scientific analysis of sources in Chinese, Turkic, Arabic, Syriac and other Eastern languages;
• organizing international expeditions, field research and maintaining scientific research networks;
• establishing international scientific collaborations and partnerships;
• developing a database on Hun and Steppe history based on artificial intelligence;
• strengthening the international visibility and integration of Hungarian science; and
• conducting scientific, educational and information-dissemination activities.

Key strategic tasks

The key strategic tasks of the Research Centre are:

• historical, philological, ethnological and geopolitical research into eastern network of connections of the Hungarian people;
• comprehensive study of the Hun - Xiongnu legacy;
• exploration of the historical connections between the Turkic and Mongol peoples;
• an analysis of Chinese source material from the perspective of Hungarian prehistory;
• systematic research and interpretation of Arabic and Syriac-language sources;
• integrated, interdisciplinary examination of the history of the steppe empires;
• comparative research on Eurasian nomadic civilizations; and
• coordinated interpretation of Eastern sources, as well as archaeological and archaeogenetic findings.

The activities of the Research Centre contribute to:

• the advancement of scientific research;
• strengthening national self-awareness; and
• supporting cultural and scientific diplomacy.
