Trianon 101 - Mikes 70, a study day was held at Ichthus Kerk by Károly Pánczél, Member of Parliament, Chairman of the National Unity Committee of the Hungarian Parliament and Gábor Horváth-Lugossy, Director General of the Institute for Hungarian Studies, who visited the Netherlands at the invitation of the organiser of the event, Ákos Urbán (Hungarian Association of the Netherlands).

The speakers were welcomed and the event and the 70-year-old Mikes Kelemen Society were greeted by András Kocsis, Ambassador of Hungary to The Hague.

In his lecture entitled "Hungarian National Politicy" Károly Pánczél emphasized that those who wish to remain Hungarian will be given every support by the Hungarian state. Anyone who has a small Hungarian spark - for example, a grandparent who was Hungarian - we will also receive support as “we will help it to ignite, we will not let a single spark fade away, since our mission is to remain Hungarian, wherever we live in the world.”

Director General Gábor Horváth-Lugossy said in his presentation entitled "Hungarian Studies in the context of national policy" that the Institute for Hungarian Studies was established by the Hungarian government in 2018 to perform a responsible task, and the Institute has proven through its work over the past two and a half years that it is possible and necessary to conduct research from a national perspective.

Our Director General said that our exceptional achievement, the huge amount of work we accomplished is confirmed by the enormous attention that surrounds the activity of our Institute. The dozens of volumes available to everyone, the international scientific conferences, the more than 400 presentations, the countless publications, the unique researches, the missions and the high scientific standards and precision that characterise the Institute for Hungarian Studies are unparalleled.

The millions of interested people confirm two things: the respect for our ancestors is still a vivid sentiment, honouring our ancestors is an intrinsic quality of Hungarians, and yes, the Hungarian people are interested in the past, the fate and the history of the Hungarian people. The Hungarians in the Carpathian Basin and the diaspora have accepted the Institute for Hungarian Studies as a credible scientific centre for presenting and exploring the above. It is with this honourable responsibility in mind that we carry out our work day after day.
