PREVIOUSLY UNKNOWN DETAILS OF HUNGARIAN PREHISTORY MAY BE REVEALED IN GEORGIA

Prof. Dr Miklós Kásler was accompanied by two senior researchers of our institute as part of the delegation accompanying the Minister of Human Resources to a country of outstanding importance from the point of view of Hungarian prehistory. Csaba Hidán and István Nagy-Luttenberger, representing the Institute for Hungarian Studies, took part in a special two-day mission to Georgia on behalf of Gábor Horváth-Lugossy, Director General of the Institute. Our researchers met Tariel Kiparoidze, heritage protection expert in the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports of Georgia.

Mr Kiparoidze assured the Hungarian delegation of their willingness to cooperate, and declared that he and his colleagues were delighted to collaborate with the Institute for International Studies.

Then, at the Library of the National Parliament of Georgia, they were shown the national epic of Georgians, The Panther Knight, the work of Sota Rustavi, the most important medieval Georgian poet,  illustrated by the Hungarian painter, Mihály Zichy and the unique and Hungarian-related documents of the  exhibition of the National Archives.

Csaba Hidán and István Nagy-Luttenberger had talks with Teona Iashvili, head of the Archives of Georgia, who is also ready to cooperate.

Our researchers attended the gala dinner held for Prof. Dr Miklós Kásler by Mihkeil Chkenkeli, the Minister of Education and Culture where they had the opportunity to have a more detailed discusion with Deputy Minister Valerian Gobronidze. The Deputy Minister is enthusiastically supporting the initiative of the Institute for Hungarian Studies and is at our disposal for any kind of joint project.

Csaba Hidán and István Nagy-Luttenberger had a meeting with Mr. Misha Tsereteli, Deputy Head of the National Museum of Georgia. The possibility of a special insight into the origins and cultural relations of Hungarian prehistory was outlined at the meeting, which would allow us to lexplore the hitherto unknown details.

At the end of the two-day programme, Csaba Hidán and István Nagy-Luttenberger participated in a traditional dinner hosted by George Sharvasidze, Rector of Tbilisi State University.

The Rector also assured the Institute for Hungarian Studies of their intention to cooperate and their support.

In the "Libretto" programme of M5 channel, our researcher Csaba Hidán said that the joint work, which will enable us to learn about Hungarian prehistory and cultural relations and hitherto unknown details, will not only include archaeogenetic studies and the translation of manuscripts, but our Institute will also help our Georgian sister institutions in the preservation of national cultural heritage.
